The Mendoza Line (a .200 batting average) is the threshold for incompetent major league hitting. It began as a joke by George Brett teasing Mario Mendoza in an interview with ESPN’s Chris Berman… and has since become the low bar. It’s no wonder Mendoza was such a poor hitter (lifetime .215 average) with those squinty eyes and bottle thick glasses!
