In the ‘88 season, Billy Ripken randomly wrote “Fuck Face” on the bottom of his BP bat with a Sharpie… so he could quickly find it on the rack. Little did he know it would end up on a baseball card.

The production team for ’89 Fleer overlooked it and, a PR disaster was created. Boxes of Fleer were flying off the shelves. They had to fix it fast, which led to a number of variations that also became collectables: they double printed it… blurred it out… scribbled it out in white… scribbled it out in black… and finally just started boxing it out.
